Speed
Slow pages are tedious to users and they tend to have an attention span of about 8 seconds. If your site does not load in that time, they will probably go somewhere else. Below are common causes of page loading slowness.
Images
Huge images are often a main culprit for slow loading websites. Today it is so easy for images taken with digital camera to be posted on to web pages, but usually the person writing the content doesn’t re-size the images properly. This results in the image or images to be large in size and takes a long time download, while this is happening it is preventing other items that make up the web page take longer to load.
Linked Files
Linked files are great, style sheets and scripts can be linked into a web page easily. This save having to type in the styles and scripts over and over again in your pages. However too many linked files are very bad. Browsers can only get a few files at a time (usually three) and with every linked file, the browser has to look up the domain name multiple times. So the more linked files there are to load, the longer it takes to load the web page.
Cache
Cache (cash) is good for general browsers as it keeps copies of files downloaded to save your browser having to download every time a page is visited. Usually the first page takes a little longer to load than the rest of the pages within the website. It is amazing to know how many web sites don’t have a cache setting.
